Introduction

About Our Club

Williamstown Sailing Club has a long history, it was established in 1910. It is situated in the heart of historic Williamstown on Hobsons Bay. There is a strong history attached to our club, involving both sailing and fishing activities. Over the years, boat classes and styles have changed, members come and go, buildings have been upgraded, but the constant is our great location combined with our strong community focus.

With our focus on community, our club membership covers a broad range in age, interests, backgrounds and abilities. We have a mix of singles, couples and family members, with members joining for sailing, fishing and social activities.

The location of the clubhouse, boat ramps and jetties provides excellent access for sailing and fishing members. We also have one of the best views in Melbourne from our upper deck and function room. The club runs a variety of social activities for members, including after race BBQs, Friday night bar nights, Christmas and New Year celebrations and more.

The fishing members are active as the fishing seasons allow – they are often out early in the morning or late at night. Some members have boats on moorings rented from Parks Victoria, and we also have a controlled number of fishing members registered to use our boat ramp. Our club has a maximum allowed boat length of 5.5 metres or 18 feet.

Our sailing program takes place between October to May. Our sailing members own a wide variety of boats, including trailables and ‘Off the Beach’ boats. The Club extends invitations to other clubs and class associations to join in the races and holds National, State and local championship regattas. Have a look at our sailing program.

We cater for sailors with all levels of ability and experience, run sail training programs for adults and TACKERS sailing programs for children, and participate in Discover Sailing days. Our focus for new members is to help you get into boating activities and provide support and encouragement for you along your journey. We have a number of members who belong to the club for purely social sailing activities, whether individually, or in groups.
