Saturday Series Racing

(See Calendar at bottom of page)

Saturday Series Racing at WSC is governed by the terms and conditions in the associated Notice of Race (NOR) and Sailing Instructions (SI). These documents will be made available on the WSC website and may be updated during the course of the Series. Sailors will be notified in advance by email of any changes made and these will also be recorded on the WSC website.

The Saturday Series Calendar can be found within the Club’s RevSport Event Calendar and in overview form below. All Series Races will commence at 1:30 pm (first Division start time on the water), with a Pre-race Briefing at 12:30 pm. Attendance at the Pre-Race Briefing is highly recommended for all skippers and/or their crew, as it is at this meeting that any last-minute changes to the course or any special safety issues will be raised.

On days where there are two races scheduled, competitors can enter either or both races. Note that time cut-offs may be applied to finishing, as detailed in the Notice of Race and in the Sailing Instructions.

The Club will run four Series across the season – each Saturday will count towards only one Series. As well as introducing more variety and interest into our racing, this will allow sailors to mix boat and crew combinations for different Series, which will encourage participation by novice sailors (both juniors and adults) as skippers will be able to ‘try out’ a new crew or new boat for one Series without impacting their results in another Series. Entry into any series is automatic upon first sign-on for a race within that series. However, all skippers need to ensure that they have uploaded a Safety Declaration and Insurance Certificate for the boat that they are sailing in the series, even if they are not the owner of the boat.

1. Club Championship Series

  • The all-fleet winner of the Series (i.e., the Club Champion) will be determined based on yardstick.
  • This Series will also be used to determine all of the Club personal-handicap-based awards (including the Bernie Simmonds Memorial Trophy, Noel Hutchinson Memorial Trophy and Jack Dickson Memorial Trophy) as well as the Club Junior Champion and the Miscellaneous Class Champion.
  • Scores from Top of the Bay Regatta will also count towards this Series, as the Club actively supports participation in the Top of the Bay event.

2. Spring Series

  • The all-fleet winner of the Series will be determined based on yardstick.
  • The races in this Series will also be used to determine Class Champion for each eligible double-handed class (including eligible trailerable classes) and for the miscellaneous double-handed class. Eligible classes are as defined in the NOR.

3. Summer Series

  • The all-fleet winner of the Series will be determined based on yardstick.
  • The races in this Series will also be used to determine Class Champion for each eligible single-handed class and for the miscellaneous single-handed class. Eligible classes are as defined in the NOR.

4. Club Regatta Series

  • The Club Regatta will be run over a single weekend as a separate Series
  • The all-fleet winner of the Series will be determined based on yardstick
  • Separate winners may be determined for classes or divisions

Note that the Club will run a fifth season targeted at Juniors, Teens & 20s and Novices, on Friday nights during February and March.

Training days are scheduled on two Saturdays during the season – exact format for each day will be determined based on suggestions.

Three Saturdays are gazetted for Alternate Format races, with exact details to be circulated closer to the time. These may include

  • A Pursuit race (with starts based on class yardstick, so that all divisions should finish together)
  • A Short race Series, with 4-8 short races in a single afternoon
  • A distance race, with a start and finish line at the Club jetty and a race to a defined mark (possibly different for each division)

Social Sailing is scheduled on Saturdays within long weekends and at the end of the season – on these days, pre-sail briefing will be at 12.30pm, with launch immediately after that briefing.
