OOD Duties & Documents

Officer-of-the-Day and Duty Crew Information

The Officer-of-the-Day (OOD) and Duty Crew are roles that all members of the sailing fleet can expect to undertake during the sailing season. The roles involve, amongst other things, ensuring that the race goes ahead in a safe manner, that records of the race are completed accurately (see documents below, hard copies are also available) and that adequate race support is available on the day. This may include decisions regarding abandonment or postponement of racing activities. The OOD is expected to be on the Start boat (the Jack Cox) throughout the race.

The OOD will chair the Race Management Team meeting, usually held at 11:00 am (for Saturday racing) and present the Race Safety Briefing to the competing sailors at the General Briefing at 12.30 pm.

The Duty Crew will assist the OOD in performing their duties and the Duty Crew must also be available to be a crew member on one of the Race Management boats if necessary.

It is the OOD’s and Duty Crew’s responsibility to arrange a swap with another rostered OOD / Duty Crew should they not be available on their rostered date. If there are any issues in this regard, please contact the Vice Commodore without delay (email: vicecommodore@williamstownsailingclub.org.au).
