The Friday evening three-club racing series has concluded, attracting over 30 registrations and around 14–16 boats on the water in each in the long and warm evenings.
Designed for novice racers, the series features a short course on the club side of the shipping channel, with races lasting around 45 minutes. It provides an excellent opportunity for newcomers to try racing, and for experienced sailors to refine skills, test different boats, or experiment with crew combinations.
The series is jointly organised by Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Hobsons Bay Yacht Club (lead organiser), and Williamstown Sailing Club, creating a strong and varied fleet without impacting club championship standings.
Four WSC crews participated: Ulf Felix Hawkins gained skippering experience with his father Huw in their Mirror; Geordan Wright sailed his Impulse and also crewed a Pacer with his partner; Hamish Douglas returned to sailing in his repaired Sabre; and Sam Mackie placed sixth overall in his Sabre and was the top novice skipper.
Planning is underway for the next series, expected to begin in late January 2027, with a focus on encouraging greater WSC participation. I look forward to seeing you there!
