(see Sailing Calendar)
Any persons new to or inexperienced in sailing are given opportunities throughout our sailing season to improve their sailing skills through our supported programs. These activities are best suited to our Learn to Sail graduates, up to three years post-graduation, and confident junior sailors who have completed Tackers 3.
Green Fleet Practice
Green Fleet Practice (GFP) runs from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. every Saturday on regular club race days. This practice session is designed for novices aged 12 + years who are WSC members. Green Fleet members will be able to improve their sailing skills in sheltered waters and under the supervision of our experienced team of sailors.
Our other programs are a natural progression to the next level of sailing:
Members may hire a Club’s Pacer or provide their own boat. Information about hiring a Club Pacer can be found here.
Any private boat participating in our sailing programs must lodge a Safety Declaration. In addition, if the private boat is to be used in a Club racing series or in a Club training program, then it must be covered by a minimum of $10,000,000 third-party liability insurance and a copy of the insurance certificate must also be lodged with the Club. Instructions on how to lodge these documents can be found here.
Green Fleet division
Our Green Fleet division is designed for novice sailors to compete against sailors of a similar standard. Green Fleet is a separate division in our Saturday afternoon racing series and sailors will sail a modified course. Green Fleet division will run only when the weather is favourable for novice sailors.
Friday evening racing series
Novice sailors are encouraged to participate in our Friday Evening Racing series which races on the Club side of the Channel. This series is an interclub series running from February to April each year. See Friday evening racing for further details.
