Social Calendar for 2016-17 sailing season

Upcoming events

Sunday 26 March | 10am – 4pm
Boat cruise up Maribyrnong River

Travel by fishing & power boats; some passenger spaces available; BYO picnic lunch.

We have a social boat trip planned for Sunday 26 March to explore up the Maribyrnong River. We are looking for members who have boats with motors who can take some passengers, and also those members who would like to join in and don’t have access to a boat with a motor. There is a notice on the noticeboard near the canteen to indicate your interest, whether you have spaces on a boat, or for those looking for a boat ride to join in. We will co-ordinate places for people – make sure your phone number is on the form. The plan is for the flotilla of boats to leave the club by 10.30am, so you need to be there by 10am to get organised. BYO picnic lunch and drinks – we are most likely to stop at Poyntons Landing, where there are picnic tables, some BBQs and playgrounds. We would expect to return to the club between 3 and 4pm.

Friday 7 April | 6pm – 9pm
Friday night food & music

At our next Friday night social gathering on 7 April, we are pleased to say that we will have great live music again from local duo, Jen Hawley and Terry. Their diversity of music skills and variety of instruments were a great hit last month. As we are hoping the warm weather may have moved on by then, we will once again have pizzas on the menu.

Food, music and bar from 6.30pm.

Saturday 22 April | 7pm onwards
International food night

The country we have chosen for this year’s international food night is India- land of mystery, history, and Bollywood! We will have a mix of both mild and spicy foods catering to all tastes and ages. We expect to have some form of musical entertainment or even Bollywood Dancers – you just never know. For those with the odd sari or turban hiding in a wardrobe, feel free to add some colour and theme to the evening. This is a family friendly event.

Tickets prices: Adults $30, Children 5-18 $10 or Families $75. Tickets can be purchased at the canteen on Saturday mornings, or ordered through social@williamstownsailingclub.org.au. Tickets must be paid for by Wednesday 19 April to guarantee your spot and for catering purposes.

So grab some family and friends and book a table to enjoy another great social night at the club.

More information

Williamstown Sailing Club is a great community club with one of the best views in Melbourne from our upper deck looking back towards the city skyline. All club members have access to the upper deck facilities , unless they are being used for a booked club or private function. Dates with booked functions are on the downstairs noticeboard near the canteen.

The club upper deck facilities are for the use of members. We have an outdoor BBQ, seating, shade cloths over some of the decking area, which all helps make it a great place to come with friends for a BBQ or sit and enjoy your take-away food. There is a full kitchen upstairs, with supplies of cutlery, plates, bowls etc for members to use. Inside there are tables and chairs, couches, as well as some games and equipment for helping entertain the kids and the adults (table tennis, fooz ball and pool table). Mid-week, if you are looking for a quiet spot, the couches upstairs provide a pleasant place to curl up and read a book.

The club now offers social membership. This membership is for people who do not want to participate in any regular boating activities, and are looking for a pleasant community environment, where you can socialise, meet new friends and make use of the upper floor facilities.

We have a social committee who are aiming to increase the variety of social activities we have around the club. We hold an annual Christmas party, and have also previously held international themed nights, trivia quizzes, Xmas in July, after sailing race BBQs, river cruises. The first Friday night of the months from October to May we have a bar night, where you can come and enjoy the location, have a drink with friends, and we will be serving some light meals and snacks, like pizza, hot dogs, BBQ etc. We also are introducing some live music to these nights.
