Family day  – Sun 12 Feb

family-day

Last year was our first family day and it was a roaring success, so we are doing it again on Sunday 12 February from 10am – 2pm.

The idea of the day is to bring down your own family and then any extended family you might like – grandparents, grand kids, brother, sister etc. and share our great club with them. You are also welcome to invite some friends to join us.

We will have some water based activities available like kayaks, Ozi Opti and Pacers to sail, fishing casting competition, swimming off the jetty, and just enjoying the location. Of course there are also the indoor activities upstairs like table tennis and foozball. A BBQ lunch will be available to purchase and the bar will be open from midday. Great live music will be provided by one of our favourite and popular performing groups ‘The Angelicats’ from 11am till 1pm.

Make sure you put the date in your diary and come along. Gold coin donation to help cover musician costs.

To get all the details and keep yourself up to date with our social activities, check out the social events page

BBQ roster for the 2016-17 season

For the after race BBQ on Saturdays we need for two sailing members to cook the BBQ. Helpers in the canteen will do the food preparation, you just have to manage the set up, cooking, serving and cleaning up. This will be from about 4.30 pm to about 6 pm. Make sure you check the roster and if you aren’t available, you need to swap with someone else.

A copy of the BBQ roster is on the Duty roster web page.

TACKERS families working bee

DSD2016__0009_Layer 3

Calling all TACKERS kids and their families.

You are all invited to come to the club for a special TACKERS working bee on Saturday 6 August.

We will be working indoors, so it will be running no matter what the weather. There will be a variety of jobs for kids and parents to help with; Opti boats will need cleaning, life jackets to be cleaned and washed and other sundry tasks. We will also need helpers to cook the BBQ lunch. So come on down anytime from 10am, lunch will be 12.30.

For safety reasons, we have to place a minimum age of 7 of any children in attendance and all children will need to be supervised by a parent, or other adult.

Lois, with the assistance of TACKERS instructors, will be running a short meeting with parents around lunchtime to discuss what the families are looking for in our TACKERS program moving forwards and how to plan for that- both formal courses and TACKERS Fleet activities.

Wear your old warm clothes in case there are messy jobs to do!

Discover Sailing Day 2016 a huge success

We had a very successful Discover Sailing Day at the club on Sunday 10 January. Over 120 visitors came through on the day, with 50 sailing sessions. The Ozi Optis proved popular with small and big kids alike, as were the club Pacers and the trailable yachts. We had plenty of families come through. A big thank you to Pete Behrendt who organised the day, and to all the volunteers who made the day a huge success.

Lipton Cup results

Wow what a cracker of a weekend the Lipton Cup Regatta turned out to be! Fantastic weather, ideal race conditions and a friendly but competitive group of sailors out on the water!

Each year the Lipton Cup continues to grow in the number of sailors and boats participating. Last year the Off The Beach (OTB) Divisions totaled 55 entrants, this year we saw 27 boats competed in five divisions in Port Melbourne Yacht Club races, and 42 boats competed in three divisions at Williamstown Sailing Club bringing our total Off The Beach boats to 71.

Most of our sailors who entered finished in the top three positions. Read about the results.

Bernie Kaaks has now posted all of his photos from the Lipton Regatta on Flickr. If you would like a digital image or print, please contact Bernie at berniekaaks@bigpond.com
